There are many pathways to alternative healing…you could choose one or many. It is up to the individual and how open may be to other forms of treatment in order to help alleviate different kinds of ailments in the body. However, illnesses do not always come as a physical or mental condition. Some people may not consider a spiritual issue to be part of the problem. I have seen first hand where it is the underlining source of the situation that is appearing to be a physical or a mental condition. It is not usually what modern medicine looks for and so it is not seen as the source to a problem.
Some of the common forms of alternative healing may include chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture and acupressure, meditation, prayer and spiritual healing, touch therapy and energy healing, aromatherapy, and herbal remedies. There is also pet/animal therapy and talk therapy as well.
Aromatherapy includes essential oils, fragrances such as flowers, infusions which are extracts from plants such as chamomile, and vaporizers that are plant based material that are dried, crushed, and heated to bring out the aroma used for direct inhalation. This does not cure conditions. It does help the body find a natural way to heal itself while improving the immune system as well. Essential oils are mostly used in massage therapy.
Massage therapy deals with the muscles and underlying tissues in the body. Medical massage therapy also includes the medical issues that may have an affect on the body itself. This helps the practitioner to develop a treatment plan that would be right for the individual.
Acupuncture uses the tips of needles at specific points in the skin. This will stimulate certain nerves to help treat various disorders.
Acupressure is the physical form of acupuncture where physical pressure is used on pressure points by use of elbow, hand or other devices used in this form of treatment.
Meditation and prayer are similar yet different. Meditation is where the mind is focused on a single point of reference such as an object or your own breathing. This helps to get the mind into a deeper relaxing and/or awareness state. This is also a good way to help in total body relaxation. Prayer is a silent or spoken word towards God or a higher power. Every person is different in their belief system so one may be different than the other here. Prayer is known to help people heal in many ways. Most people have experienced this on a spiritual level more than a physical one.
Faith healing is a form of healing or a curing of an illness or disease through divine power (God or a higher power) without the use of traditional medicine. This sometimes includes the laying on of hands or methods that do not include touch at all. It usually takes place within a religious context.
This brings us to energy healing. Energy Healing can be used with or without physical contact. There are many kinds from one on one hands on/hands off to distant or absent healing. It depends on what the individual is comfortable with. Some examples of energy healing include Reiki, Qigong, therapeutic touch, spiritual healing, crystal healing and so on.
Herbal remedies is the medicinal uses of plants and roots from various sources. However if they are misused people could have a very bad reaction and sometimes life threatening situations. We humans are not the only ones who use herbs for medicinal uses. Animals are also aware of these herbs and will naturally seek them out when they are not well.
Pet/animal therapy is being used to help people with various illnesses whether at home or in hospitals and nursing care. They can help us cope with life and every day situations that make it hard for some to handle. They are also able to help those who are considered to be autistic. Yet still, we find that they also help those who are diabetic and epileptic among other things. Pets also have been known to help with depression or during the loss of a loved one. They help us heal on many different levels.
Talk therapy usually helps us work through everyday stresses in our lives. It helps us find alternate ways of dealing with anger and self obsessions among many other emotions we go through. It can also help on a mental and/or emotional level.
Many of these alternative forms of healing can and are often times used along with our modern medicines. The choices are ours to make….we create our own happiness or unhappiness along the way….our lives can stand still or be a constant journey of knowledge and learning. Which path will you choose to take?? Personally, I enjoy the journey. It’s always been something new and the mountains crossed has helped me gain new insight and learning for things to come…I believe it helps one become a better person and helps us gain a better understanding of our journey.
